About our Curriculum
At Worthinghead Primary School, our curriculum is active, exciting, and built around the needs of our children. It is not a "one-size-fits-all" plan or reliant on schemes alone. Instead, our teachers use their passion and expertise to bring learning to life from Reception all the way to Year 6. We ensure every child gains the key knowledge, skills, and vocabulary they need for the future.
Reading at the Heart of Learning
Reading is the heartbeat of our whole curriculum. We view books as "mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors" that help children see themselves and explore the wider world. Every day, children share high-quality books, explore big ideas, and develop a genuine love for reading. Strong reading and oracy (speaking) skills give children the confidence to express themselves across every subject.
How We Learn Every Day
From Early Years through Key Stage 2, learning is hands-on, cohesive, and purposeful. Children learn in the classroom, through real-world experiences, and outdoors in our Green Wood forest area. We create a safe space where mistakes are welcomed as a natural part of growth. Through adaptive teaching, visual tools, and small step learning, we give every child the equity and support they need to thrive alongside their peers.
Preparing Children for Life
We value all subjects equally-from science and maths to art, music, sport, and outdoor learning. By the time children leave Worthinghead at the end of Year 6, they are fully prepared for secondary school and modern society. They leave us as kind, hardworking, and independent young people who are proud of who they are.
