Attendance and Punctuality

At Worthinghead Primary School, excellent attendance helps children feel safe, make friends, and achieve their very best. Every school day counts, and being in school every day builds strong habits for the future.

Why Attendance Matters

Coming to school every day helps children:

  • Keep up with learning: Missing days makes it hard to catch up on new reading, maths, and exciting topics.
  • Build lasting friendships: Regular attendance helps children feel included and part of our school family.
  • Grow confidence and independence: Daily routines give children stability, happiness, and success.

Morning Routine and Timings

Punctuality is just as important as attendance. Arriving on time ensures children start their day feeling calm, settled, and ready to learn.

  • Arrival on Playground: Children should arrive on the school playground before 8:45am.
  • School Doors Open: 8:45am. Children walk straight into their classrooms.
  • Learning Starts: 8:45am. Morning tasks, reading, and registration begin immediately.

If a child arrives after 8:55am, they must enter through the main school office and will be marked as late.

Reporting an Absence

If your child is ill or unable to attend school:

  1. Contact Us Early: Please call the school office on 01274 414904 or send a message via ClassDojo before 9:00am on the first day of absence.
  2. Provide a Reason: Let us know the specific reason for absence so we can update our registers accurately.
  3. Keep Us Updated: Please contact us every day your child remains absent.

Term-Time Holidays

In line with government rules, Headteachers cannot authorise family holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Taking children out of school during term time disrupts their learning and may result in a penalty fine issued by Bradford Council.

If you need to request time off for exceptional reasons, please complete the online form, available from the main school office, well in advance.
