Our Ethos

At Worthinghead Primary School, every child matters. Inclusion is needs-led and goes far beyond Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) alone; it encompasses diversity of ability, background, culture, and life experience. While equality means valuing every child the same, equity means giving each child what they need to thrive, understanding that fairness does not always look identical.

We have high expectations of all our childs and put support in place at the earliest possible stage where it is needed. We work in close partnership with children, parents, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and ensure every child feels safe, supported, and empowered to succeed.

  • SEND & Inclusion Team

All SEND provision is managed and coordinated by our SEND Co-ordinator (SENDCO) and Inclusion Champion, Mrs. Holmes. We regularly monitor and evaluate all SEND provision to ensure individual needs are met and resources are used effectively. Our governing body holds statutory responsibilities under the SEND Code of Practice (2014) to support every child.

Our dedicated staff team includes teaching assistants, support assistants, and inclusion mentors trained to support children with a wide range of needs-including Autism, Dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

  • Curriculum, Teaching & Learning

High-quality, adaptive teaching is at the heart of our inclusive practice. Staff use strategies such as visual supports, small-step learning, flexible groupings, and carefully-planned scaffolds, keeping children learning alongside their peers wherever possible.

Clear individual learning targets (set out in Provision Maps or Individual Education Plans) are reviewed regularly to monitor progress and evaluate the impact of support. We view some adjustments as essential for some children, useful for many, and accepted by all.

  • Assessment & Parent Partnership

Regular assessments ensure children stay on track to meet their targets and that planning accurately addresses individual needs. Children are involved in setting personal goals and reviewing their own progress wherever appropriate.

Parents are vital partners in their child's learning journey. We invite parents to attend review meetings each term and encourage an ongoing, open dialogue between home and school so we can work together to provide the best possible experience.

  • Accessibility

Our school building is planned entirely on one level, enabling easy access for wheelchair users and childs with mobility needs. We also have a dedicated intimate care suite within school to support children with specific personal care requirements.

For full details on how we ensure our school environment, curriculum, and information are fully accessible to all, please view our Accessibility Plan located on our Policy Documents page.

  • External Partnerships
